A very special 'hello' to all at Postcards
I would like to thank you for the opportunity to savour the special treats of the Market 190 Restaurant at McLaren Vale last Friday. It was great to be a winner in this competition. I was able to take my husband for a belated Valentine's Day lunch which was a surprise for him. We chose the outdoor setting to enjoy our leisurely meal. The platter of seafood (oysters, octopus, squid , Atlantic salmon) was superb. Of course washed down with a delicious local chardonnay! The staff were relaxed and friendly and helped make the meal just perfect. Thanks again. Susan Hodgens

I find your site so helpful to me when talking to friends overseas that I talk to and met them on the net ( I do alot of video confrencing with them). Alot have not heard much about SA at all. As I say to most of them, Australia is sold to the overseas market as the tropics of Queensland, Sydney Harbour / Opera House, Kakadu, and the Outback and there is so much they are missing. I have attatched a picture of my family and friends down the Coorong on a day trip. Hope you like it.

I was most impressed when I watched Postcards recently as Keith Conlon showed how scenic Black Hill Cons. Pk was. I have hiked extensively over the park and immensely enjoy looking at the views. I have also been very impressed that Keith has been to other scenic places recently such as Mt Remarkable and Mt Crawford. As an Adelaide Hills resident there is nothing more satisfying than taking a walk in the forest with only you and nature there.

We were lucky to win one of your competitions - a pass to the National Motor Museum. My 11 year old son really, really enjoyed trailblazing on a mini jeep - he went by me so fast the photo came out blurred! He said it was 'wicked' & we both enjoyed seeing the whole exhibition.

Competition prize
To all at Postcards, I was lucky enough to have won a luncheon at the beautiful Corio Hotel at Goolwa recently. On the Adelaide Cup Day holiday, my family and I decided to visit Goolwa for the day. We stopped at many interesting sites along the way, drove around Hindmarsh Island, walked along the barrages, and visited Signal Point, which much to our surprise was a fantastic display. To top the day off, we enjoyed a great lunch at the Corio Hotel. Thanks to all at Postcards and the gang at the Corio Hotel.

Hi gang,
this is a great web site and it has a lot of useful information, which of course is why you have it up and running.

When I was entering this last competition, I'm sure that Hermann Gass was the old proffesional fisherman who lived in the other side of the river. In the 50's, as a child, the family would stay in a group of holiday shacks not far from the punt, or ferry as it is now known. There was a very large Peppercorn tree in a fenced off paddock, and we were told that it was a local Aboriginal burial Ground. We were taught to respect the rights of the Aboriganal people and not enter into this area, which of course we didn't.

Old Mr Gass, or as we called him, Hermann, as he prefered to be called that, was a very private person but didn't mind helping us by seeling us a few fresh fish. I think he was in his seventies then, but I do remember that he loved the bird life in the area and I believe that he did a lot in the area to preserve the natural enviroment and was also wery well liked and respected in the Mannum township. There are, of course, a lot of people who have either "passed on" or moved out of the area who would have known him. At the time I knew him, he was not married or his wife was deceased many years. I look back and remember those days with fond memmories, although they are few, but it is amazing the small things one remembers just by entering into a competition.

Postcards Competition
On Saturday evening last my wife and I, together with two friends, spent a most enjoyable time dining at the Holiday Inn Restaurant in Hindley Street, the results of my good fortune in winning a dinner for two at the Holiday Inn Restaurant through the Postcards Competition.
We all found the meal to be superb (and we dine out fairly regularly). Although the venue may lack a little "atmosphere" we recognise that the restaurant is going through a transitional phase and this minor shortcoming was hardly noticeable, due in no small part to the restaurant manager, Tim Thomas, and his excellent staff, all of whom were friendly and efficient at all times.
We would like to make special mention of Tim, who looked after our ever need and ensured that our experience was one to be remembered. His courtesy, and his wonderful sense of humour, made the evening most enjoyable. (He is a wonderful host).
Thank you also to General Manager, Denis Croke, who plays no small part in the operation of the Restaurant.
As mentioned earlier each course of the meal (we had all 3 courses) was absolutely superb, and we would like to congratulate Denis, Tim and their excellent chef for a most enjoyable meal.
In conclusion, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and can recommend it to others. We will certainly be dining at the Holiday Inn Restaurant again in the not too distant future.

Thorndon Park Reservoir

Guided bird walks

Congratulations Post Card Team. Your last newsletter was full interesting information. I decided to take part in one of the Bird walks arranged by the Dept. of Zoology. I did not have my camera with me to take photos of some of the wonderful 30 species of birds I observed. But I shall go back sometime. The tour was interesting and the guide informative. I would recommend this tour to everyone. I'm looking forward to seeing it on Postcards soon.

Flying visit to a GREAT STATE

Hi to the postcards team,
Having lived in Qld. all of our lives, we really had no idea just what an interesting place SA was until we had the opportunity to visit our son who was working in Kadina for a year. Being an intrepid traveller and having only 1 week we gleaned all information (by the way, not too much availble in Qld.) about SA we could and flew to Adelaide on a Friday evening. Had a Wedding on Sat. ave so was able to take in the glorious parks surrounding Adelaide and the Adelaide Zoo (in the rain) before the wedding. On the Sunday am was a Vintage Car Rally passing directly by our Motel. In the ave we headed for the hills to Haandorf (fantastic) and then for Kadina (beautiful town!) While in that area we took in York Peninsula from top to bottom so different from anything in Queensland and then headed for the Flinders Ranges and Wilpena Pound. Absolutely wonderful people and country and had the pleasure of seeing the Pichi Pichi Railway on our way. It really is the most diverse State. The outback is not at all like Qld., not so far between towns! On the last week-end headed for Clare Valley and Skillagalee for lunch and stopped in at the Casino Sat. night! Sunday, before flying out had a trip to McLaren Vale right in the middle of their wine festival. Another score. The trip was all too short but very impressive, with lasting memories of a wonderful part of Australia. Just a shame we couldn't fit in Kangaroo Island too. Next time! I have now joined Postcards to glean more info.

HELLO Postcards Team

I am a travel consultant and my most recent trip was to South Australia. I didnt realise before I left but this place has so much potential as a major tourist destination in Australia. We spent 2.5 weeks driving from Melbourne along the coast to Streaky Bay and then back through the Flinders Ranges.

The highlight of our trip was Seal Bay. We spent a couple of days camping here and in that time we watched sea lions and dolphins play for hours. We didnt see anyone for about three days but we were so totally occupied with the scenery and nature that it didnt matter.

The information on your pages is all very intresting and very handy - I will look forward to being updated by you on South Australia.

I was most impressed by the Coorong special that you presented last Sunday evening. You certainly took a lot of effort and time in preparing this special including the research. You must be congratulated.

You certainly captured the scenery and different aspects of the Coorong which most people are not aware of. I was impressed that you actually talked to the locals that reside in the area and gained there perception of the area and why they like living there.
The Coorong and surrounding towns will certainly benefit from this special and hopefully more people will visit this wonderful place.
I should know as I used to live in Meningie before moving to Adelaide.
