Stansbury jetty - Now and Then: Ron surveys the changes to this Yorke Peninsula attraction in South Australia

The seaside holiday town of Stansbury on Yorke Peninsula is a picturesque little place where people come from far and wide in search of a feed of fish.

Many make a beeline for the new jetty - as it's known - but others remember the old jetty that stretched from the old butter factory out into the bay. It was pretty close to where the Stansbury pub is today.

The noisy demise of this rickety old structure is still remembered by many locals. It was wartime and the army decided to use it for target practice by blowing it up. It was a dismal failure - more windows in town were damaged than jetty demolished.

In the end the jetty was burnt but remnants can still be found at Stansbury today. The tale of its demise back and the colour photos to prove it are on show at the Stansbury museum in North Terrace. If you have any further questions please email info@postcards-sa.com.au
