Visit Glenelg's newest restaurant Thai Jasmine and you'll feel that you are in Thailand enjoying the local food and traditional hospitality.

The menu features authentic Thai cuisine such as lemongrass prawns, steamed king fish, matsamun curry and basil chicken.

However, it's not only the food that will transport you to Thailand. So will the aromas of fresh herbs, beautiful Thai decorations and friendly Thai hosts who will expertly guide you through the extensive menu which will enrich your dining experience.

Thai Jasmine Restaurant is ideally situated in the Glenelg Town Hall overlooking Adelaide's premier beach. During the evening you are well positioned to enjoy colourful and romantic sunsets.

Thai Jasmine Restaurant manager Elizabeth Pirrotta has lived and worked in Adelaide for almost 20 years but returned to Thailand recently to hand-select a team of chefs for the restaurant.

"People from Thailand are born into cooking," Elizabeth said. "From an early age we are taught traditional Thai cooking, and I want to bring this experience here."

Elizabeth called her restaurant Thai Jasmine because Jasmine is a flower that's embedded in her culture. Jasmine flowers feature heavily in flower arrangements, are worn at religious ceremonies and are used in all kinds of Thai dishes.

"Some people think Thai food is all about chilli but it's not. We use herbs, spices and coconut milk for fresh flavour and sweetness. Our food does not contain MSG and we don't use a lot of oil."

Many ingredients such as fish sauce and jasmine rice are imported from Thailand, herbs are brought in from Cairns and Darwin, and all the seafood is provided by the highly regarded Angelakis Brothers.

Thai Jasmine Restaurant has three menus. The dinner menu has a total of 78 mouthwatering dishes to choose from, including 24 different seafood dishes, 16 vegetarian dishes, and six desserts.

Exclusively available is their own homemade unique “Chocolate Chilli Ice Cream”. This is truly an experience, where you are confronted with coolness on the tongue and a gentle warm sensation when it gets to your throat. One customer said “It sounds weird, but it’s won me over”.

There are also two banquet selections, ideal for group bookings.

Some of the dishes include:

The lunch menu is smaller and lighter, and includes popular choices such as cold rolls, Pandan Chicken, Tom Yum, Laksa and Pad Thai just to name a few.

To make your experience even more pleasurable, Thai Jasmine has more than 60 wines to choose from to complement your meal. The well stocked bar also has a good selection of spirits and local and imported beers.

A visit to Thai Jasmine Restaurant isn't complete without taking home the extensive take away menu, so be sure to collect one when you dine in.

Many people are 'trying out' the new Thai Jasmine Restaurant and all are sure to return again and again, so to avoid disappointment, make sure you book in advance. The alfresco area facing Glenelg beach will prove especially popular during the summer months.

"I'm looking for long-term customers so guests can be guaranteed of an excellent dining experience. It's our aim to please our customers so that they share their experience with all of Adelaide," Elizabeth said.

Thai Jasmine Restaurant is open every night from 5.30pm for dinner and Wednesday to Sunday between noon and 3.30pm for lunch.
