Seppelt Wines: At Seppeltsfield, in the Barossa Valley region of South Australia (Text & photos supplied by Sightseeing South Australia) The historic Seppelt winery, located at Seppeltsfield in the Barossa Valley, is a national treasure and well worth a visit. With over a century and a half of winemaking experience, the House of Seppelt is extremely proud of its heritage and rich tradition.
Founded in 1851, the Seppelt cellar door is the ideal place to experience the diverse range of Seppelt wines. From methode champenoise sparkling wines to premium table wines through to ports and sherries, no other wine range embodies the history of the Australian wine industry like The House of Seppelt does.
The Seppelt story began over 150 years ago, when Joseph Seppelt planted his first vines in the Barossa Valley. He set out to make the best wines from the best wine region - the Barossa Valley. Not only did he achieve his goal of making the best wine, he laid the foundations for his son, Benno Seppelt to succeed him in 1868 and at just 21 years of age, Benno Seppelt hurled himself into the task of making Seppelt bigger and better than his father had ever dreamed of.
By the 1900s, Seppeltsfield had grown into a small village with a vinegar factory, butchery, laboratory, cooperage, distillery, smokehouse, a piggery and a spectacular flower garden that boasted over 200 different kinds of roses. Today, it is one of the most picturesque and interesting places in the Barossa Valley.
The House of Seppelt also has a winery in Great Western, Victoria, where they make all of the Seppelt methode champenoise sparkling wines.
