SEAVIEW LODGE
When you leave the mainland and head across Backstair's Passage to Kangaroo Island, the first town you arrive at is Penneshaw. It's often the place where holidays on KI begin, but why not stay a while, in a traditional Bed & Breakfast.
Seaview Lodge was built as a private home in 1860. In the years following, it was extended, and in 1890 opened as a guest house. For the next 30 years travellers enjoyed its country homestead hospitality. Nestled in a cottage garden, the building has now been restored to its original character by the current owners, Neil & Sue Schultz.
"We'd actually been coming to KI for 15 years for holidays. We fell in love with the place. The renovation took 5 1/2 months. It's been very rewarding, very rewarding" Sue told Lisa.
The house has a total of some 16 rooms and Neil and Sue are resident, in traditional B&B style. There are five guest bedrooms - four doubles and a single twin. The rooms are each named after the flowers growing in the garden. The deluxe rooms offer romantic four poster beds, open fires and ensuite bathrooms. Breakfast, home cooked by Neil, is served in the guests' dining room overlooking the ocean. Good, old fashioned hospitality is the order of the day here.
Seaview Lodge is at Willoughby Rd Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Rooms range from $89 to $110 per night for two people, and that includes a cooked breakfast. Sue can cook you dinner by arrangement. You can contact Neil and Sue on Ph. 8553 1132 or email: info@postcards.sa.com.au for more information
