Prairie Hotel Prairie Hotel

Between Hawker and Leigh Creek in the State's north is the tiny town of Parachilna. It has a population of seven - but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in hospitality. People from far and wide know that the only pub in town, the Prairie Hotel, is a beauty. Jane and Ross Fargher, managers of the Prairie Hotel since April 1994, have a long and successful association with the Flinders Ranges as pastoralists, and today are also well recognised for their contribution to tourism in the area. They have kept to the original character of the pub and have added a gourmet menu, dining room and accommodation. Included on this imaginative menu of Australian Native and Flinders Feral foods, you will find roo burgers and emu & pepper leaf pies through to Thai watercress & yabby soup. Inspiration for the menu content is native seasonal produce with an emphasis on foods available within the region. The wine list is extensive and complimentary to the menu offered with good South Australian wines. In winter, open fires roar in the dining room and above them sit works of original art featuring the Flinders Ranges. The Hotel isn't just popular with locals, it has hosted concerts with performers such as James Blundell and Don Burrows. The Hotel is also involved in the 1997 "Opera In The Outback". The Opera will be held from 18th - 21st of September and is starring "Dame Kiri Te Kanawa". The Prairie Hotel also stages many dinners and special events with a Music theme. For details of events at the Prairie Hotel please check the regular updates in the "Whats on" file.
