Mt Remarkable
Now that winter is upon us many people's minds turn to bushwalking and one of the finest venues is the Mount Remarkable National Park in the Southern Flinders Ranges. It is roughley 1500-times larger than Belair National Park and covers some of the most stunning bush in the state. You can get to the National Park either via Port Pirie to the south, Melrose to the east or Wilmington to the north. From Wilmington it's a dirt track that weaves its way for a kilometre up throught the hills until you reach a parking area. That's a starting place for bushwalks or for viewing Alligator Gorge. The Heysen Trail runs through Mount Remarkable National Park and there are eight separate camping areas. They've been set up by National Parks and Wildlife ... and therefore if you stay in the park it must be in one of these areas. For information, prices or bookings call the Ranger at Mount Remarkable on (08) 8634 7068. There is a caravan park in Wilmington on the Parks outskirts.
