If you're like me and have a fascination for the sea then you'll love the latest exhibition at the Maritime Museum at Port Adelaide. It's called Maritime Miniatures and features over 300 models form across the country. Lovers of ship models and ships in bottles will be enthralled when visiting the exhibition with over 300 of the country's oldest and most interesting models will be on display from July 1st 1997 to October 6th. Some of the exhibits include 3 models of Nelson's ship The Victory, a model of The Hesperus which brought author May Gibbs to Australia, the historically significant model The Aboriginal and many more. Exhibition Curator Dienwke Jessop says,"Models tell us so much about the evolution of ships and shipbuilding and often they are the only reminder of some long lost wrecked vessel. Many of the models are made by people who served on the particular vessels and had an intimate knowledge of their detailing." The Museum has special school holiday programs and the display Maritime Miniatures is open seven days. It's in Lipson Street at the Port.
