Loxton Hotel: At Loxton in the Riverland region of South Australia

In 1838, an area in the heart of the Riverland became known as Loxton. Eager to develop the town further, the proprietors of the Loxton Hotel opened its doors for business in 1908. Situated on East Terrace, the hotel has forged a reputation for being a great year long holiday destination.

The hotel can be found directly opposite the majestic River Murray and its superb flora and fauna. Furthermore, the hotel is only a gentle walk from many attractions, or a short drive to local orchards, vineyards and other Riverland drawcards.

Loxton has always been a tight knit neighbourhood, enjoying a healthy community spirit. In the late 1960s the hotel went under a dramatic transformation. It became a community hotel in the late 60s and is now known as the Loxton Community Hotel Motel.

There are eleven other community hotels in South Australia. What distinguishes them from the other establishments is their guiding business ethics. Community owned (with sponsorship and donations), all profits generated go back into the people of Loxton. This means that local sporting clubs (such as football and netball organizations) and volunteer groups (like Rotary, Apex, Lions and Scouts) receive extra funding that they otherwise would not have.

In recent years the hotel has spent three million dollars on extensive renovations. Among other improvements, a new façade was built, bistro extended and new four-star rooms and conference areas were constructed. Now modern facilities can be accessed in the same traditional friendly country setting.

Both local foodstuffs and environment (thanks to the new al fresco dining extension) can be admired in the hotel’s Tangelos Bistro. In-house chefs prepare gourmet food, from outstanding regional produce, catering for both traditional and a’ la carte palates.

Tangelos is open 7 days, and boast a well-stocked cellar. An extensive counter meal menu is also available

For some additional entertainment the Lucky Sovereign Gaming Lounge has forty of the newest gaming machines, in air-conditioned comfort.
