Kangaroo Island

Nepean Bay is the first place most visitors to Kangaroo Island see. The main town of Kingscote sits on its edges and its the landing berth for the ferry from Glenelg. But it is also the place you can board "The Chardonnay". You may think that this is an odd name for a yacht, but then you won't, once you are introduced to the skipper who is called Ants. Ants and his wife Jenni operate Kangaroo Island's only charter yacht. The Chardonnay is able to take 12 passengers but Ants says its best with six to eight. There are also cabins, showers and a saloon which means the charters can spread over three days. "You are likely to see the odd dolphin and a beautiful coast line and experience plenty of relaxation." Ants has more than 20 years experience in off shore sailing including a Sydney to Hobart and the waters around Kangaroo Island are his backyard. Passengers shouldn't be surprised if they are joined by pods of dolphins and the yacht is also able to handle children safely. The shortest charter is four hours on Nepean Bay which includes morning or afternoon tea. There are eight hour cruises which includes lunch or the extended cruises. These are three days and two nights and include the North Coast of the Island. Prices start at $50 for adults and $35 for children - that's for half a day. For prices on the longer trips or bookings call Jenni or Ants on 8553 2111. For more information you can email: info@postcards.sa.com.au
