JURLIQUE
It's a tough job, but someone has to do it!
"The more you let go, the more you actually float."
"So what will this be doing for me?"
"OK. As you can probably feel, it is the ultimate relaxation experience where the body is lying there weightless so immediately you can just let every single muscle in the body go"
On any Postcards assignment, I try to immerse myself in the story, but here, in the Jurlique Dead Sea Flotation pool, that's an impossibility. It's filled with one and a half tonnes of Epsom salts and three thousand litres of water, making it saltier than the sea it's named after. All of which means you've got no option but to float away with your own thoughts.
"We recommend that you start off with about twenty minutes to half an hour- OK - and for those people lucky enough to fall asleep they reckon that about half an hour's worth of sleep is worth about four hours of really deep sleep".
"Wow!"
And if you think this is the ultimate in pampered indulgence, then think again. It's just the beginning. At the Jurlique Wellness Sanctuary Day Spa at the Next Generation on Memorial Drive, this is the first stage of two hours of sheer decadence.
"Press your arms, just like that, that's excellent. And what I'm going to do is turn the water on, so bear with me".
"So what does this do for me?"
"This is another relaxation treatment, OK - and I'll just start the water".
Here Thora Klein massages away your daily cares using Jurlique's range of aromatic essential oils made from organically grown herbs from the company's Mount Barker retreat. The products represent the combined talents of Thora's parents, Jurgen and Ulricke and so does the name Jurlique. They came to Australia from Germany 16 years ago looking for a pristine environment to produce their beauty products and they found it here in Adelaide and I'm soooo glad they did.
"There are many water jets suspended along the vichy shower, and what they are focussing on are the shakra points, the shakra and the energy points in the body"
"And on the other hand, we can work on different muscle tension that we have in specific areas of the body".
What muscle tension? By now the job of lifting myself from here for the next phase is very, very hard. So I'll let someone else do the work. In an adjoining suite, the pampering goes on with deep cleansing facials and full body massages. Jurlique says its emphasis is on inner health, but the outer body is doing just fine.
The philosophy of the so-called Wellness Sanctuary is maximum indulgence for those with minimal time. If your busy schedule means a two-week holiday is out of the question, then a morning here maybe just what the beautician ordered. Do not try this at home, unless of course you have your own mud specially shipped in from Austria and mixed with Jurlique's unique ingredients.
"And then we have a mixture of herbs, the organic herbs which we actually grow on our herb farm. Some spirolina which is like seaweed algae and some essential oils. OK, and I've chosen some revitalising ones so that you'll get ready for the big end".
"There's a lot of nutrients in there, both plants and things like that, which are absorbed into the skin, but it also absorbs toxins from the skin".
"It really absorbs the toxins from your body".
Once the mud is applied, on goes the body wrap for a good hour. Time to collect my weary thoughts and rest up for the next phase.
