Heritage Accommodation in the Heart of Historic Gawler.

Craiglea Estate was originally the home of Dr William Home Popham who came from Ireland in 1858 and established a thriving medical practice in Gawler. While much has changed since those pioneering days, the property stills stands as one of the last examples of how the landed gentry lived.

The estate retains over an acre of the once expansive grounds and is in the very heart of the town, directly behind the Gawler Institute and Council Chambers. Sitting in the centre of the sloping grounds overlooking the town is Craiglea Mansion. This is the private residence of the current owners and hosts, Adam and Zara Pellen.

Accommodation is available in two of the other buildings on the estate. The Bakehouse, where the household’s cooking was undertaken in the 19th century, is now a compact two-storey cottage with its own balcony. It is very popular with wedding couples and also for individuals visiting the town on business.

The Coach~house is a large, stone building that was originally the estate’s stables. The stone water trough and iron baskets from which the horses fed still remain. The loft has been extensively renovated to include three bedrooms, a second bathroom and kitchenette. Downstairs is the expansive living area, fully-equipped kitchen and bathroom. The private courtyard has a six-person heated spa. It is ideal for larger groups and families.

Coupled with the rich heritage features of the buildings are the modern conveniences expected by discerning guests.
