Pichi Richi Coffee Pot Centenary: Andrew McLeod visits the Outback region of South Australia
Steam Motor Coach One, affectionately known as the Coffee Pot, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The Coffee Pot is one of the most historic vehicles in the Pichi Richi Preservation Society's collection.
It ran a regular weekly service between Quorn and Hawker in the Flinders Ranges hauling a four-wheel van carrying parcels, mail and passengers from 1906 to 1932. In the 1980s she underwent a major restoration and has been looking a treat ever since.
As part of the Coffee Pot's centenary, she'll be running a number of services in late September and early October. You can jump on board at Quorn, have lunch at the restored Willows Brewery Restaurant in the Pichi Richi Pass and then continue onto Woolshed Flat before returning to Quorn. It's a great day out.
