Cedars Open Garden
The hills around Hahndorf have been immortalised by the paintings of Sir Hans Heysen. His ability to capture the gums and the Australian light made him a favourite in the art world and now thousands of people flock to visit his chalet style studio each year. The studio is set in 150 acres of bush - which was an inspiration for Heysen. However Sir Hans and his wife Sally were also keen gardeners and their home "The Cedars" is surrounded by colour. The tradition has continued through the Heysen generations and next weekend they're hosting the Australian Open Garden Scheme. Along with the garden, the studio of Sir Hans' daughter Nora will be open with special floral display. Entrance is $3.50 ... but tours of the house and the studio are extra. "The Cedars" is in Heysen Road and if you are coming from Adelaide to Hahndorf look for the sign on the Main Road into the town. For more information email: info@postcards.sa.com.au
