Well it's not Rundle Street . . . it's certainly not King William Road or The Parade. In fact this place is probably pretty much unknown to the regular cappucino cafe crowd. This cafe is simply called The Cafe, and here in Cygnet River on Kangaroo Island a tractor driving past the front door is perfectly normal.

Tony Nolan is the chef at The Cafe, where they take pride in presenting as much of the local produce as they can get their hands on. That includes the Marron, and freshwater crayfish farmed on the island.

"It has a taste all of its own and with other local produce makes a very nice combination" Tony has two rules in his kitchen. Number one - make it yourself, using Kangaroo Island ingredients. And rule number two? If people like it, you cook it. The chicken is served with a coriander, tomato and avocado salsa - and that's just an appetiser! You can follow it with some K.I. whiting, K.I. lamb, K.I. vegies or the marron. "And with Lisa's help we will taste some of these dishes that look so beautiful."

They say it's all in the presentation, and Tony does it with style. It's important that the freshness and the quality of the food shines through. The Cafe is a good spot to enjoy a casual coffee or a snack while on tour in K.I. Or go all the way and stay for lunch or dinner and discover the flavours of the local delicacies. The Cafe is at Cygnet River, about 14 km from Kingscote on the main road to the airport.
