From 1851,‘The Brecon Arms’ occupied the site, until it was rebuilt in 1922 and renamed ‘The Brecknock’. Five generations of the Moore family have been associated with the pub since it was purchased by Francis Collingham Moore just over 100 years ago
In the finest traditions of an Irish pub, the Brecknock has an old-world charm, with richly timbered walls, leadlight windows, open fireplaces and cosy, intimate bars.
For those wishing to arrange a reception, birthday party, anniversary event, cocktail party or simply a get together with a group of friends, 3 separate function rooms are available, and menus can be arranged to perfectly suit the occasion.
The 12 guest rooms are large, and have air-conditioning, washing facilities, overhead fans, and all have access to the common room, which has TV, and is a relaxing place for reading and writing.
Tariffs range from $45 a night for a single room, to $85 a night for a triple, representing excellent value for city accommodation. Coffee and tea facilities are available all day, together with access to the balcony, where guests may choose to enjoy a light breakfast, overlooking Adelaide’s main thoroughfare, King William Street.
Attached to the Brecknock is the Brecon Inn, a hostel catering for backpackers, and offering budget accommodation in 4 and 6 bed dorms. YHA, Nomads and VIP discounts apply.
Lunch and dinner menus at the Brecknock are comprehensive, and feature such Irish favourites as Beef and Guinness Pot Pie with Vegetables, Irish Stew with Irish Soda Bread, and of course, Irish Coffee. In fine weather, the Courtyard Barbeque is a favourite spot, where guests can display their cooking skills with a variety of gourmet sausages, chops, chicken kebabs or steak.
The Brecknock is recognised as the original Irish Pub in South Australia, and is the popular venue for traditional live Irish music each Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.
