Central Mushroom House is an icon in the mushroom/fungus industry. In the 1970's the original mushroom grower of South Australia reasoned The Central Market the most convenient location to service Adelaide's mushroom lovers. More recently the stall has evolved to a "one stop shop" for the delights of the industry by featuring the full range of fresh mushrooms available in South Australia. Our Regular Range includes:-
- White mushrooms, ranging from super small buttons (tiny) right through to the meaty large opens.
- Swiss Brown, a more intensely flavoured and slightly nutty mushroom, ranging from small buttons to the large opens often dubbed "steak for vegetarians" by our regular clients.
Specialty Mushrooms includes:-
- Shitake - very rich traditional Asian mushroom, classified as medicinal in Japan for its long list of reported traditional health benefits. Excellent with Asian dishes and steak.
- Oyster - mild flavour and highly adept at absorbing and complementing other flavours. Traditionally used in stir fry and soups can be used in a variety of ways, even crumbed as a schnitzel substitute.
- Enoki - mild flavour and crunchy texture. Traditionally a stir fry and soup mushroom, can be as widely used as candying for a unique and abstract desert.
- Black Fungus - mild flavour with almost a sea weedy texture.
- Shimejji - rich flavour, ideal for Asian cooking, pastas and risottos and an ideal accompaniment to white meat.
- Chestnut - mild flavoured, nutty and crunchy in texture.
Gourmet Range
- Porcini, rich dried Italian mushroom with very intense flavour and aroma. Perfect for pastas, risottos, sauces and soups.
- Morrel - strond dried European mushroom renowned for its intense flavour.
- Chantarelle - balance dried European mushroom with a beautiful "French" flavour and feel.
- Shitake - dried Asian delight with rich flavours and aroma.
- Wild Blend - dried mix of European and Asian mushrooms including Porcini, Shitake, Oyster, Black Fungus and Namenko. Rich and balanced blend perfect for pastas, risottos, soups and sauces.
- Wild Italian Blend - the crème de la creme of mushroom blends. Dried Porcini, Chantarelle, and Morrel combine to create a rich balance ideal for the mushroom lover. Strong flavour and aroma is ideal for gourmet risotto, pastas, soups and sauces. Sensational.
