In the 1920's Michael George Angelakis farewelled his Greek island home of Symi in the Aegean, famous for its sponge divers, and opened his arms to Australia as a migrant. In a borrowed dinghy fishing the waters in the Great Australian Bight off Thevenard, he began what grew into a leading Australian enterprise. Sons George, Nick and their brother-in-law Sam Sperou embraced the opportunity to establish Angelakis Bros. as a formal entity. Today, the third generation - Michael G Angelakis, Tom and Michael N Angelakis, Peter and Michael Sperou, possess ownership and day to day management of the business.
Our history of commitment to all aspects of the seafood industry (processing, marketing, wholesale and retail) and reputation for quality, consistency and innovation has been developed for over 70 years. Today, Angelakis Bros. is a diversified family business employing the latest technology and over 140 people. Whilst seafood is the core of our business, we also have a reputation for Poultry and Game products. Angelakis Bros.' new processing facility in Adelaide is designed and operated on a single principle - 'To ensure that the products are as fresh and full of natural flavours as they can possibly be'. We constantly set out to exceed the most stern standards and quality approval under the HACCP-based Quality Assurance Program.
Our retail arm in the Central Market opened in 1960 and has been part of the precinct for over 40 years. Our Seafood, Poultry and Game Hall is nationally recognised for being a showcase for some of Australia's finest natural products and our products displayed in the food hall have been processed in our HACCP export factory facility - a two minute stroll from the Market.
Our store in the Central Market Arcade offers an extensive variety of fresh, healthy and pre-prepared products, Angelakis Bros. aims to help you broaden your awareness and understanding of the multitude of products available, further encouraging you to experiment and feel confident in cooking an assortment of meals. As Australians, we live in a multicultural society and consequently are subject to an endless menu of meal options. Angelakis Bros. is dedicated to bringing the finest seafood, poultry and game to your table and we are always happy to offer tips and pass on our traditional family recipes.
